Roland Township is more than Lake Metigoshe!
HILTON SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 10
From the late 1890s to the early 1960's, one-room country schools were the seat of education for the sons and daughters of the homesteaders and farmers who found the Turtle Mountains to their liking. Hilton District No. 10 had up to five schools in different locations Roland Township through the years. One building remains in its original location on Lake Loop Road north of the Metigoshe Christian Center. Another school building further north on the east side of the road near Jerry's Lake Loop Restaurant is now Witt's End bookstore and coffee house. It was not a Hilton school building but it houses history from those days, including a teacher's desk used in the Hilton School noted above.
